Hi, long time no write !!! I’m back in the UK but have so much catching up to do on my blog it will take a couple of days. So, as you read this bear in mind that I wrote all this on my travels so it might say “today I went whale watching” whereas in reality I’m sat in my parents study, a grey sky outside and a fuzzy moggy shedding hair all over the keyboard! Here goes:
1st-7th July
My final (and it was final – I had to leave at some point) period of time in San Francisco passed like a dream. You couldn’t plan/invent/script 5 days better than those I spent with Shana before I boarded my plane on the 7th. The first couple of days I took it easy, still feeling dizzy and eating simple foods for fear of the consequences! But by Monday the 4th July I was determined that things were going to improve. As a result my first 4th July experience/celebration was spent sailing in the bay. Kevin, a fellow restaurant ‘bod’, invited us to join him and a couple of friends on his boat. The sky was blue, the wind strong enough to give us some excitement, the views spectacular and the company great fun. I couldn’t believe where I was. I held off pinching myself or I’d have drawn blood from having to do it all day. 4th July sailing around the bay, beautiful San Francisco in my sights and a certain someone’s arms around me – bliss – until …. I GOT SEA SICK, DAMN IT ! I’m not a total stranger to water, I’ve windsurfed and canoes in my time, I have no problems on ferry. Great timing, my system chooses a moment at which I hope to make a good impression to decide to make me as queezy (sp) as hell. I managed to avoid having to lean over the side of the boat, but only just. This is something I am going to have to practice back home (the sailing not the vomiting). That evening we headed back home to watch the fireworks from the roof of the apartment, and then pass out!

3 months trekking across the USA by Greyhound bus, relying on the generosity of the locals (discovering the true, non 'Bushified' character of the nation), & following the westward path of the American Dream (& trying not to get into too much trouble!).
